world’s best pools!

world’s best pools!

At duskii headquarters, we work hard (and just quietly), play pretty hard in our off time as well! We are so lucky to be able to be excited and challenged by new and exciting projects everyday and it’s not something we take for granted; we know it’s rare to have such an enthusiastic team working together. One of the perks of working with a team that you love is lunchtime and we recently spent our break talking bucket lists and throwing together our list of the world’s best pools.

Bondi Icebergs, Bondi Australia
Call us biased, the team agreed that Bondi Icebergs definitely made the list. Not only is it a Sydney icon (which is where we are based), it is internationally recognized as one of the most magical pools in the world. There is something so special about the ocean waves splashing over the white pool walls. It is considered the beating heart of the world famous Bondi Beach and you will find some of us there most weekends!

Laucala Island, Fiji
Bula! The second most expensive resort in the world, seeing this pool in the flesh is going to set you back $5000 USD per night. Laucala Island Resort belongs to Dietrich Mateschitz, the owner of Red Bull and with only 25 villas and each with their own private pool, you would imagine that guests wouldn’t need much more. They get it anyway… A breathtaking infinity pool, within a pool. Another highlight of this resort for us is that it is nearly completely self sufficient with most of the produce coming from the island. And the cherry on top is of course the gorgeous Fijian’s who go above and beyond in their service whilst always smiling.

Katikies The Hotel, Santorini
Most of this hotel is former cave dwellings carved into the cliff but you will be relieved to know they have elevators! The three infinity pools are illuminated at night and glow the most brilliant blue you will ever see. Swim to the edge and you will can peer out to the incredible caldera views or down a 200m drop. I know which way I would be looking!

Atlas Sports Centre swimming pool, Paris, France
You don’t always need impressive views to create a calm and relaxing environment. The architects who were charged with upgrading a sport center in Paris have done an incredible job of reworking the usual indoor pool design. To improve the acoustics in the swimming pool area, the ceiling was fitted with a forest of ‘acoustic pins’. Lighting fixtures are placed above the pins, which filter the light and eliminate glare. In return, light makes the most of the white and heavily textured ceiling and walls. I would be happy backstroking for hours every afternoon at this carefully designed pool.

Domus Civita cave pool, Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy
This is the place of dreams. Domus Civita is a fully restored 14th century palazzo with impeccable design, connected to underground caves, Etruscan tombs and a Roman water cistern. The pool and spa area were carved into the rock of the cliff centuries ago and the space reinvented to provide a truly unique experience for the guests. An incredible marriage of old and new that works so well.

Nemo 33, Brussels, Belgium
I’m not sure I could even float happily on the surface of this pool knowing how deep it is but it takes all sorts to make a world, so it makes our best pool list. For our duskii divers, Nemo 33 is the deepest indoor pool in the world at 34.5 meters. I will happily cheer you on from the numerous underwater viewing windows! The complex was designed by as a multi-purpose diving instruction, recreational, and film production facility in 2004.

W South Beach, Miami Beach USA
The hotel pool backs onto the gorgeous beach so your biggest decision will be how often to swap between both. Apart from a stunning pool, this place is famous for its impeccable pool service so you really have no reason to get up for anything other than a dip. Unless of course the live DJ’s music is too irresistible!

Amanjena, Marrakech, Morocco
Date palms and olive trees dot the ground on Amanjena, a peaceful oasis outside the ancient city of Marrakech. Its name is derived from the Sanskrit word for peace, aman and the Arabic word for paradise, jena. This place lives up to its name for sure.
